December 2019  Wine of the Month Review - Bistecca tagliata and amarone

A rare night at home so John grilled a juicy T-bone steak medium rare, cut it into strips Tuscan style and served it with grilled zucchini and potato rosti. In the mean-time, I opened a bottle of Masi Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Costasera 2010.

The food was fantastic, of course, and proved a perfect foil for the wine which is at its peak. Its colour a medium ruby red was a little lighter that I had expected. The oak was well integrated and the nose gave dried fruit and spice characters and the palate lived up to the promise. A generous and relaxed wine which happily integrated with the food.

We finished the bottle off while watching ‘The Irishman’ a recent movie starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, and Harvey Keit about the Mafia in the USA. The wine went very well with that too!
